A fond farewell from David
After completing my degree and Solicitors’ Final Examinations (as they were then known) I joined another firm in Nantwich in July 1987.
I served as an Articled Clerk for Brian Bowcock for the following two years, qualifying as a Solicitor in August 1989. Brian was a hard taskmaster, but training with him undoubtedly served me very well in later years. In January 1994 we left that firm to found Bowcock Cuerden.
At the outset we had a total staff of about 8 or 9 people, and a smaller office.
I would like to think that the growth of the firm (we now number 30 people) has been the result of a combination of hard work and good recruitment. I have been very fortunate to have worked with some wonderful people during the 31 or so years since we opened our doors.
I am enormously grateful to all those colleagues who have helped shape and strengthen the firm, and who have helped me along the way, and to all of our Clients for whom and with whom it has been a privilege to work.
We have never been a “typical” Cheshire market town/high street firm. Our work is often demanding and challenging, but it is also rewarding and satisfying. I have been lucky that, in the course of my work, I have met Clients who have also become good and supportive friends.
I am retiring confident in the knowledge that I will be leaving the continuing management and operation of the firm in the more than capable hands of my Co-Directors Lesley Smith, Jamie Want, Carina Pennant-Williams and Andrew Williamson.
I wish the firm, and all its Clients, all the very best for the future.
